Car Seat Challenge!
You'll have to trust us that this is a normal size infant car seat. She is a tiny little thing. The car seat challenge is a test that NICU babies have to pass to leave the NICU. They get buckled into the car seat for 2 hours with all their sensors attached to make sure they can tolerate being somewhere other than the hospital crib. This is huge because most babies have left within two days of doing the car seat challenge. She did it last night and we found out this morning that she passed it! In terms of other going home progress, at 11am this morning, she had been successfully taking bottles for 24 hours - this means finishing her feeding from a bottle and still gain weight and not have any undigested food. She has to do this for 48 hours to be able to be discharged - she is soooo close and we are getting really excited. If she keeps taking the bottle, she could be home on Friday or saturday!!! She is a lot more alert and finished the bottles much faster.
